Welcome to the Global ICCA Registry

The ICCA Registry website is an online information platform for territories and areas conserved by Indigenous Peoples and local communities (ICCAs), where communities themselves provide data, case studies, maps, photos and stories, informing useful statistics and analyses on featured ICCAs – or territories of life – around the world.

Case Studies

See All

Many ICCA custodians seek to inform others of their presence, actions, and customary and legal rights. For example, this is done so they can advocate for recognition of their rights and territories. Explore some of the case studies that have been written and shared by custodian communities of the reported ICCAs. Not all ICCAs that are in the ICCA Registry database have a case study online.

ICCAs - Territories of life data manual

A manual is available to support Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and those who work with them to register their ICCAs in the ICCA Registry database. This manual is intended to guide readers through the process of deciding whether to submit data, how to submit it, and where to submit it to. It also includes information on how ICCAs can be reported as protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) to the Protected Planet Initiative databases.
